Rocket Dungeon Comments on Mike's Jump

E-mail Print PDF

"I just received notice of this via email. On Friday October 15th 2010, Mad Mike Hughes will attempt to recreate Evel Knievel's famous attempt to jump over the Snake River in his rocket powered X-1 Skycucle. Mike will pilot his X-2 SkyLimo over the Colorado River. Like Evel's X-1, Mike's X-2 will be steam powered. The motor will produce a scalding 4,000 lbs (max) of thrust for 4 seconds.

George Katz said... heh heh ... :) wait till his rocket starts rolling like most rockets inevitable do. Doesn't look like he has any control surfaces. :) Sun Jul 25, 03:05:00 AM EDT

Dick said... My 'winged' rockets all tend to do a wide swooping motion unlike many of my 3fn's that spin. But he might practice flying upside down. Sun Jul 25, 10:56:00 AM EDT"

Waldo Stakes on Mike's 4-4-4-4 Rocket Design

E-mail Print PDF

Legendary land speed racer Waldo Stakes mentions Mike Hughes and desginer Bob Truax in a recent blog post at landspeedrecordrocketcar.com

"A friend of mine Michael Hughes, who calls himself Mad Mike Hughes, has built and is testing his own steam rocket engine which is somewhat similar to the “4-4-4-4” steam rocket engine. It is built and being tested as money allows and God knows in this economy there is very little of that. Michael has also already fabricated his own rocket shaped airframe which has evolved into a small three finned man carrying flight rocket. You can see his efforts at www.madmike.org Here are a couple of photos of his rocket and his steam rocket engine.  His goal? Why he is going to jump over the Grand Canyon of course. Stay tuned…..Waldo"
